To formally diagnose children with autism, you need to bring them to a psychologist and go through the diagnostic checklist one by one. Bring them to an assessment could be a hassle, and parents may worry about stigmatizing of their child. Parents would go through a process of debat, balancing the pros and cons of the assessment. Because of the advancement in technology, there will be a chance that children with autism can be diagnosed by an app on your phone.

In “Autism & Beyond“ Duke University , were trying to research an app using front facing camera to diagnose children aged 6 and under. The program would show short clips of different emotions, which try to stimulate different emotional responses of the child. As the same time the front facing camera would capture the children’s facial expressions and head movements towards the clips. The data collected would be analysed.

If such technology can be proofen to be reliable, it would be a big leap towards early detection of children with autism at the comfort at home.
