This serie of “Jurassic photo” is taken by Samantha Lu, a female photographer and a single mother. The cute tyrannosaurus in the photo is her son, Levi. While most parents want to capture their children’s cute little faces, this “dinosaur” face has never appeared in front of the camera.

Since kindergarten, Levi has tremendous difficulties in dealing with social interaction and situations, he would get very emotional and was subsequently diagnosed with autism. As for Levi, it was never easy to have eye contact and communication with others. He did not know what kind of facial expression he needs to show when taking pictures. Taking advantage of Levi’s interest in role-play with costume, Samantha bought him a Tyrannosaurus costume which he is comfortable in taking pictures. Samantha also invited his relatives to join the shooting. The pure and lovely interaction between the two on the grass portrayed Samantha’s unconditioned love for Levi and documented Levi’s growth as well.
To overcome issues like social difficulties and repetitive behaviors is often a challenge for children with autism and their families throughout their lives. Parents should pay more attention to developmental needs of the child, help the child to explore and develop own strengths and interests, and find suitable ways to facilitate children’s growth from parent-child communication. In addition, individualized professional behavioral therapy can also effectively improve language, social skills, and behavioral problems for children with autism. a mile to a smile!
