According to relevant statistics, one in every thousand people may have symptoms of autism, but so far no two totally identical autism symptoms have been found. When autism is often associated with non-contact, difficult to communicate, weird behavior, etc., these definitions are fermented in popular culture, making many autistic patients be stereotyped and labeled. The picture book “Why Johnny doesn’t flap: NT is OK”, rarely starts from the point of view of an autistic kid, describing the relationship with an ordinary friend and conveying the values of respecting differences to readers.

Through the perceived differences between his ordinary friend and the main character, each page of the picture book accurately describes the behavioral symptoms of autism. Children with autism have precise requirements for numbers and sequences and tend to perform rigid and repetitive behaviors such as repeating or reciting sentences, thus the book has mentioned that the main character has regarded some behaviors of his ordinary friend as weird, like arriving earlier than dating time, not reciting subtitles, etc. It can be gradually realized that schools, families and peers can learn more about the ideas and logics behind behaviors of autistic patients and understand more of different needs from another perspectives. Caring for children with autism and raising awareness and tolerance of autism among society to jointly promoting their social integration. A mile to a smile!
