Representative Children’s Program, Sesame Street created a New Role Member – Julia. According to the character, Julia represents people with autism and sometimes she may do things a little bit different.

In the demo video, Julia was in a swing, Abby walked over and greeted her, but Julia ignored Abby and giggled away. Elmo explained to Abby, “Because Julia has autism, sometimes she does things differently.” Then Elmo suggested ways Abby can get along with Julia. For example, talking in shorter sentences and wait longer for Julia’s reply. And that resulted in all three of them playing happily together.

The new role has been praised by all walks of life, that children can learn and understand autism through a cartoon program. People with autism also think that this angle can make the public more aware of them.
