With the rapid increase in the number of people with autism in recent years, detection and treatment methods based on artificial intelligence, robots and other complementary technologies have come into play in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. Plus the integration a variety of teaching methods for autism, it helps speed up the treatment and recovery progress so as to maximize the effectiveness of early intervention.
Take the “multi-modal laboratory” of The Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University as an example, a circle of green mats was built and eight camcorders were installed around so as to collect more accurate data from multiple angles. Through the four behavioral indicators, including responding to name, observation from pointing, following instructions, separation and reunion, the process is used for training AI for preliminary screening. One of the progressive breakthrough in this study is the detailed behavioral video data and remote observation for children with autism for the first time. More than 400 sample data was collected up to now while the accuracy rate has reached to 80%, which at least helps screen out children with obvious autistic symptoms in terms of the large population and shortage of professions.
Though AI is expected to promote the development of primary medical care in future, AI screening is not equivalent to professional assessment. If relevant symptoms are observed, professional and reliable assessment should be sought as early as possible to seize the prime time of preschool intervention. In addition, search engines tend to put advertising in the first place that may contribute to information difference, parents should seek for scientific behavioral therapy to improve multi-dimensional problems more pertinently. a mile to a smile!
