Space Center Houston in Texas, America, is a well-known tourist attraction and has recently been awarded as the first space center in the world to become a certified Autism Center. Though cool lighting and high-tech entertainment facilities are highlights of attracting tourists, for those autistic patients, sometimes it will cause great trouble.

To this end, Space Center Houston offers a variety of props at the entrance’s customer service center that every guest can enjoy the best tour experience. For example, sometimes there may be too much noises, which are too stimulating for symptoms, so set of headphones will be provided to lower the volume of noise in the environment; while dark glasses are also provided to help cut down the excessive visual stimulation; Sometimes when guests feel anxious, center also provides a tool you can squeeze to calm down and reduce anxiety. For those who have more serious symptoms, Space Center has set up a quiet and comfortable lounge, and all employees have received formal training to provide timely assistance if needed.

“It is hoped that more organizations can apply for this certification, which can increase social awareness and care for autism as well as help other guests understand the different experience way of people with special needs. More acute insights and understandings are of great importance for every needy.” President and CEO of the Space Center Houston, William T. Harris said. Beyond the increasing understanding of autism, autistic patients should actively seek scientific and effective treatment to deal with behavioral problems pertinently. A mile to smile!
