What is autism?
The full name of autism is autism spectrum disorder. By it means of Spectrum disorder patients have varying degrees of difficulty and developmental differences in all different levels. The deficit areas can be social, communication, cognition, emotion and behavioral aspects. Patients may also have different rigidity or interests. In the past, there were different names of the diagnoses of autism, such as autism, Ashkelon disease, high-functioning autism, autism tendency etc. With the update of diagnostic criteria in DSM 5, the above names have been collectively referred to as “autism spectrum disorders.”
Therapeutic features required by autism
Because different people with autism have different characteristics and needs, the intervention and programs they required need to be individualized. Individualized intervention consists of different priorities and orders in teaching. Some patients may be need more focus on social training, while others need to focus more on language development. Each program also needs to be personalized. For example, some patients will be more likely to learn self-help routine or social games. However, some patients are more difficult to understand. Therefore, some programs require more fine-tuning and guidance to help patients learn. A good intervention needs to be individualized and tailored for each person with autism.
