The first children’s discovery museum in Hong Kong will be officially opened in the mid-September, with the aim of promoting child-initiated play and providing families with children aged 0-10 space that allows free exploration, creation and expression. Through the fun play, children can learn more knowledge and there are also many teaching-inspired display in the museum such as a STEAM teaching area to encourage children to think and practice independently.
The whole museum is divided into 4 major areas with different thematic facilities for kid play. In “Our natural world” area, it offers various animal and plant specimens for children to explore and observe, in which they can discover the wonders of nature and learn ways to protect environment; In “Tinkering Lab”, experiment with unique tools and materials can help children develop hands-on and thinking skills in the process of creating and testing items; In the “Story Stage”, children can put on performance clothes and tell own stories through stage production and role-play; In “Transit Tots” area, it is an simulative urban traffic area that designed for young children aged below 3, facilitating children’s development of five senses and exploration of various means of transportation in daily life under safe and comfortable environment.
Autistic children tend to have relatively limited play experience and be reluctant to change and try new things. The children-centered children’s discovery museum is able to cultivate a variety of learning interests and hands-on skills for autistic children and thus broaden life experience and independent thinking through a relaxed and enjoyable interactive exploration format.
