One of the most concerned issues for parents with children with autism is social skills, which can be considered as a difficult problem to handle.
Some children with autism are reluctant to get along with their peers while some are too excited when they get along with peers.
In addition, some children with autism do not understand what social etiquette is; for example, being polite, turns taking and so on. Plus, teachers may always demand students to perform certain social rules, such as greeting teachers, proper interaction with classmates etc ., Children with autism may find it hard to understand and handle those social demands.
Of course, before everything, it is better for parents to arrange social groups for their children with autism to participate. Moreover, parents should pay attention in selecting social groups, considering their mode of the social group, whether the intervention and direction are appropriate. We may further discuss the topic in choosing social group in later chapter.
In addition to participating in social group, parents can also utilize more time to practice social skills with children with autism at home. A set of social skills training manuals can be downloaded from the government webpage, https://www.hkedcity.net/sen/asd/communication/page_5746c55d9034431f1e020000
