Adapted from the popular Korean drama “Good Doctor굿 닥터”, the first episode of Japanese version “Good Doctor” has achieved a good audience rating of 11.5%, with gorgeous cast and intriguing plots. Yamazaki Kento showed remarkable acting skills in interpreting the role of an autistic genius doctor so it is definitely a soothing drama that must be chased this season!

The lead actor has autism, but with great memory because of savant syndrome. He aspired to become a pediatric surgeon since he was a child. Since he has difficulty in getting along with others, most doctors and nurses have prejudice and doubts about him. He has also repeatedly broken the hospital rules in order to save the children, which made him a troublesome existence in the eyes of outsiders.

In spite of the misunderstanding and reprimand by others, he always maintains a kind heart and hopes to save every child and let them grow healthily. In the process, he showed extraordinary medical knowledge and proposed potential treatments and neglected hidden dangers that others do not aware in critical moments, gradually gaining others’ appreciation and support.

Indifference and prejudice are more problematic than autism. The lack of public awareness and understanding of autism may aggravate the isolation of children with autism and delay the best timing for early intervention. Parents should encourage children with autism to interact with their peers in real social environment, help them integrate into the society and realize self identity. A mile to a smile!
