Young mothers with children with autisms openly wrote to HK Chief Executive expressing the hope for a special training school. The mother, who is a 19-year-old girl with moderate mental retardation and autism, stated in the article that the current mentally challenged adult training center in Hong Kong is seriously inadequate. Taking the son who graduated in July this year as an example, although she began looking for an adult training center three years ago but failed, she sought a regional support center while she was waiting. She found that there was only one support center in Sha Tin, Tai Wai and Ma On Shan. The supply is considered to be far less than the demand, and the center is not designed for people with autism. The tutor has not yet received behavioral training for patients with autism.
She finally suggested that the Government can set up autism youth training schools in some primary schools that had been suspended in Sha Tin, to receive all autistic youth who were over the age of 18, and to employ professionally trained personnel and therapists to conduct therapy and guidance to patient with autism that’s over 18 years old.
