Zhong Huaxuan, 23, never talked since young and always isolated herself in own room. When it comes to secondary school age, her emotional disturbance got worse and even got bullied as she could not get along with other classmates. She was diagnosed with high-functioning autism at the age of 14 while her family never regarded as a pause for her life yet began to seek help from agencies and hospitals and accompany Huaxuan for every single moments. Despite the difficulties encountered in other academic fields, she loved painting and demanded high quality of work. Later, she majored in advertising design and worked hard to unleash talents in painting and even won numerous awards at home and abroad with the assistance by teachers and classmates.
Huaxuan did not speak more than three sentences a day before going to high school and she began to practice public speaking until she was asked to state her work concept on stage. After years of treatment and practice, she can now overcome her fears and even counsel other autistic children through her own experiences. Being awarded as top ten outstanding youth in Taiwan last year, she was proud that she had tried her best to get over the biggest obstacles for autism – that is, coming out and being seen.
In reality, most children with autism do not have the so-called talent and more acceptance and understanding is the most rational thing when we get to know the difficulties and effort behind. The most important thing to is identify the problems faced by children with autism and find the best treatment for them! What parents need to do most is actually the timely diagnosis and intervention for autistic children so as to assist them in overcoming multiple challenges.
