People with autism can also contribute to society by their hands! Clay, a 16-year-old teenager with autism in Brisbane, Australia, spent two years searching for a job without any response. With the support from parents and advice from consultants, he decided to start a business and created his own cleaning business instead a year ago.

The company is mainly responsible for cleaning large trash bins with more than 70 customers at present and most of them are long-term customers that are satisfied with the service. Clay earns the first pot of gold through own efforts with growing number of clients and appointments. Apart from making money, Clay has even paid it forward and offered free bin cleaning services for neighbors as Christmas gift, and Clay’s mother felt so proud of her son.

Behaviors and social skills of people with autism may have different levels of deviation from ordinary people. While most employers are prone to judge their deficiencies with first impressions, they do not give them the opportunity to understand the strengths and abilities of those with special needs. In addition to enhancing the public understanding of people with autism, the community should also give people with autism more opportunities to enter the workforce and better integrate into society. a mile to a smile!
