Parents in Hong Kong generally do not know much about autism. Sometimes they think that their son or daughter is just “naughty.” Mr. Wen mentioned that he did not know much about autism at first. He only thought that his son (Adam) was relatively “naughty”; until his son was two and a half years old, he found that he had a big difference with other schoolchildren of the same age. In the meanwhile, Adam had a confirmed diagnosis of autism. However, Mr. Wen was way too busy before and ignored his sons needs in early childhood. He also belief that autism will heal itself, just like a common cold. As a result, Adam’s situation became more and more serious. Until he was 10 years old, he began to face Adam’s problems.

Adam is a 17-year-old teenager, and he is very strong now. Therefore, the situation of emotional out of control still annoys Mr. Wen and Mrs Wen. When Adam’s situation was out of control, Mr. Wen had to get out from everything to appease Adam, because Mrs Wen’s body was too petite to control Adam. However, Mr. Wen understands that Adam can’t control his emotions like a normal child. He can only live in his own world and use his own way to vent his dissatisfaction.

Although autism does not heal, the situation will get better and better through training and treatment. According to clinical psychologists, before the age of 6, it was the golden period of treatment for children with autism. In recent news report, the Deputy Secretary for Labour and Welfare also pointed out that if a child has autism, parents should take care of it and seek appropriate treatment early in the child’s golden treatment period. Autismilee is committed to providing the most professional, suitable and comprehensive solutions to improve the quality of life for children with autism, a mile to a smile.
