There’s an idiom in Chinese culture, “Children’s words carry no harm.” Which means some words that are spoken from the children’s, we may be forgive what they said because they are just children, but if the same words are spoken from the adult, the message is completely different. Some internet users shared their experience on the Facebook group when they are taking a ride on the MTR. What he saw was a parent insulting a child who was suspected with autism. That parent even call that children suspected with autism an idiot and ask her child to get away from him.

The internet user said that it was the time of peak hour, and the MTR was quite crowded. There was a foreign maid carrying a boy who was suspected with autism and the boy kept biting his hands at the time. That internet user guessed that the boy’s mood was unstable. However, he noticed that the boy is trying hard to control his emotions and try to calm himself down.

At the same time, there are several mothers who was carrying their children and planning to insult that boy suspected with autism in public. One of the mothers just yell loudly: “That boy is an idiot, just get away from him!” One of the younger children who did not understand the meaning of his mother, asked aloud: “What do you mean by calling him an idiot?” His mother not only did not teach her children the right concept, but also exaggeratedly intimidated her children. “That boy is coming for you and going to start a fight!”,and these words scared the children.

There’s an idiom in the Chinese society that talks about how much time it takes to raise a child: “Child-a 100, 99-gifted”. For parents of children with autism, it is not an easy task to raise their children. It is a lifelong responsibility for them to take care of their children. Autism is not as bad as we think it is, some people with autism still contribute a lot to the society. Hope that the society can understands more about children with autism, less discrimination, and more acceptance. a mile to a smile!
