Apart from playing good songs, the host of radio programme should also be humorous to make the audience laugh. But the radio programme to be introduced today is not that funny but even a bit serious in the topic with more meanings behind. “A Child? A Guy!” is the one of the RTHK Community Involvement Broadcasts, which is produced and hosted by high-functioning autistic people. The new season will continue to serve the purpose of self-helping the autistic community in Hong Kong by inviting various types of people with autism to share their stories, so as to disseminate the message of giving care to people with autism.

On account of the negative news and discrimination towards people with autism in different degrees, four hosts decided to voice for autism by disclosing personal experiences. The programme has a total of 13 episodes covering various topics such as employment, marriage, social welfare and how to improve behavioral problems, etc. It hopes to not only provide more professional information for those autistic audiences, but also has more extensive exposure to the public.

Nowadays, in spite of the increasing universality of the term “autism”, it is always the professions, social workers or some parents who express their opinions and feelings towards autism while people with autism seldom have the chance to reveal their first-hand experiences. Such programme conveys the value of respecting differences to more listeners and adjusts the social expectations of perfectionism, offering another perspective for understanding the needs of autism. Raising awareness, tolerance and care for autism among the society, a mile to a smile!
